Currently, over 90% of charging stations are slow chargers in private homes and workplaces, leaving a gaping hole in the provision of charging capabilities beyond daily commute endpoints. Despite the rollout of public chargers outpacing electric vehicle sales, most of these chargers are of the slow-charge type. Widely available fastcharge public chargers are needed to match the convenience of petrol-powered vehicles for long-distance journeys.
Public chargers are improving, but new chargers must support fastcharging to ensure electric vehicle programs' continuing success.
